Naito undergoing another eye surgery.
On the final stop of the Wrestling Dontaku tour, Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI officially wrapped up with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. There was an update on Naito provided via an interview he did with Tokyo Sports.
He is set to undergo eye surgery on May 7th and then he’ll be undergoing stem cell therapy for his right knee. After that, Naito will begin focusing on body maintenance as he moves to the next stage of his career. While speaking about his future, Naito said he is not retiring from in-ring competition.
I’m not going to retire, although some people may have misunderstood. I want to take the time to maintain my body and then move on to the next stage. I would like to prepare for the next stage while undergoing various treatments.
The upcoming eye surgery will be Naito’s fourth. This surgery is going to help with his vertical double vision. In 2024, he underwent an eye surgery to help with his horizontal double vision.
I used to be able to see only the left eye from the front, but the surgery at the end of the year made it possible for me to see the right eye as well. So I can see very well on both sides. However, I have double vision on the top and bottom, so the next surgery will be to adjust my vision on the top and bottom. I’m looking forward to this surgery because I think it will help me to see much better.
As for his knee, Naito said it’s been a problem since he started wrestling. He knows it is not going to completely heal, but the therapy will help movement and pain-wise.
My knee has been in bad condition since my debut, but since I have this much time off, I thought I could focus on getting it treated. As soon as I finish the eye surgery, I’ll have stem cell therapy for my right knee. There is no way that it will completely heal, but I have heard that the movement and pain will improve a lot.
As a result of Naito and BUSHI finishing up with New Japan, the remaining members of Los Ingobernables de Japon (Yota Tsuji, Hiromu Takahashi & Shingo Takagi) are going their separate ways.
