Femi also spoke about the advice he’s received from The Undertaker.
At the last two NXT Stand & Deliver Premium Live Events, Oba Femi has went into those matches as champion and left with the title.
In 2024, he successfully defended the North American Championship against Josh Briggs and Donovan Dijak. It was a bout that won the Match of the Year honor in the 2024 NXT Year-End Awards. This past April, Femi retained the NXT Championship in a Triple Threat involving Je’Von Evans and Trick Williams.
While guest appearing on episode #173 of WWE – Die Woche, Femi explained why he ranks the 2024 Triple Threat over the 2025 match. He stated that with Briggs and Dijak, people did not know what they were going to see from three big men. With the 2025 match, everyone had distinct roles to play.
That’s a good question (Femi responded when asked if he thinks Triple Threat with Trick Williams & Je’Von Evans is the best match of his career thus far). I think it depends on who you ask. It’s up there for sure. It’s top two.
Yeah (the other choice is the Triple Threat with Josh Briggs & Donovan Dijak). I still think that was the better match because of the impressiveness of the whole thing. Because this match, it was me, Trick and Je’Von and everybody had a distinct part to play. You know Oba Femi is going to be the strong one, you know Trick is going to be the entertainer and you know Je’Von is going to fly and we played that role perfectly and it was a beautiful match but the year before, it was me, Dijak and Josh Briggs and you don’t really know what the dynamic is going to be with three big men in there and it was all over the place, it was chaos and I feel like it was big men doing things that big men shouldn’t be able to do but, we’re succeeding at anyway. So I would put that one over the Triple Threat this year.
Over the last two months, there have been several occasions on NXT TV when Femi has had a moment with The Undertaker and the WWE Hall of Famer praised him. Femi spoke about getting advice from The Undertaker on and off-screen.
Oh man, it means the world to me (to get advice from The Undertaker). So, there’s obviously the motivational words he’s given to me on TV, telling me this is my yard and what an honor, what a big endorsement that is. But he also tells me behind the scenes… they just finished shooting L.F.G. and stuff like that. So he’s been around so we’ve talked a lot and he gives me advice. He watched my match with Moose and he gave me some tips and he was like, we could have done less and still gotten the same reaction and it’s little things like that that make you think so I appreciate The Undertaker being around, I appreciate his endorsement and I hope he stays around for a while.
Next up on the docket for Femi is an NXT Title defense against No Quarter Catch Crew’s Myles Borne at Battleground on May 25th.
