Mercedes Moné wants Athena to get a little more shine on AEW TV.
Just over a month removed from her Owen Hart Foundation Tournament match against Athena, Moné had high praise for the reigning ROH Women’s World Champion in a recent interview with Undisputed.
Moné and Athena have shared the ring nearly 50 times in their careers, with most matches taking place during their runs in WWE. However, when they met on AEW TV in April, it was their first time ever facing off in singles action.
Moné reflected that the bout was “so f****** cool,” and thought it was proof that Athena should appear more frequently on AEW.
“Athena has been doing it for so long,” Moné said. “I was watching her before I was even signed to WWE. I want to see her on AEW television more. She’s too good not to be seen. She’s explosive–one of the best, innovative wrestlers in the world. She is that fucking good.”
Athena has primarily wrestled on ROH since 2023, dominating the women’s division with a title run that has lasted nearly 900 days. While her time in the promotion has put a big spotlight on her, being able to appear on TBS and TNT for AEW action – which she has only done a few times in recent years – would be a significantly larger opportunity for her.
Moné’s win over Athena was part of an ongoing tournament, which is scheduled to wrap up this weekend when she faces Jamie Hayter at Double or Nothing. The two are scheduled to have a face-to-face this evening on Dynamite ahead of their match.
