We’re now 2/3 of the way through the block matches and, with three nights remaining in each block, the B Block saw many eliminations today. With Jeff Cobb and Okada winning and going to 12 points, anyone with six points or less is mathematically eliminated. EVIL is the only other B Block participate still alive with 10 points.
For Tanahashi, the best he can do is finish with 12 points (which would include a head-to-head win over Cobb). It is theoretically possible for Cobb and Okada to finish with 12 each if they both lose their next two matches and their head-to-head match on 20-Oct ends in a double DQ or double count-out. Additionally, EVIL would have to score a combined 1 point or less in his matches against Goto and SANADA and also have his match vs. Cobb end in a double DQ or double count-out to finish with 11 or less points (if EVIL finished with 12 he would have the head-to-head tie-breaker vs. Tanahashi). In this highly unlikely and convoluted scenario, all three of Cobb, Okada, and Tanahashi would finish with 12. Tanahashi would have the head-to-head tie-breaker vs. Cobb but Okada would have the head-to-head tie-breaker vs. Tanahashi and be even with Cobb which would position Okada as the block winner.
While Zack Smith maintained his strong four-point lead in the overall contest, the ever-dramatic C Block has a new leader. Randobot is also surging having made perfect predictions for the first time this year.
