Sayaka explained why she did not share the news when it happened.
There’s a feature story on the web Sportiva website about independent talent Unagi Sayaka. In the piece, Sayaka revealed that she was fired from the STARDOM promotion.
She debuted for them in 2020 and was there for two years. She stopped appearing in December 2022 but returned in 2025 for STARDOM New Year Dream. She added that it’s something she can laugh about now. Sayaka does not know why she was fired.
I can say this now, but I was fired from STARDOM. I thought I would say it when it became something I could laugh about. It’s a funny story now.
Over the last several years, she’s competed for a handful of different promotions such as CMLL, Ice Ribbon, DDT, MLW, GLEAT, GCW and All Japan. She was initially nervous to become a freelancer.
Maybe this is something I can devote my life to. I was anxious about going freelance… Anyway, I had to be the most talked about anywhere I went, and if I couldn’t do that, my life would really be over. I felt like I was on the edge of a cliff.
Sayaka presents her own self-produced wrestling shows. She has one coming up on April 26th at Ryōgoku Sumo Hall. She is aiming to put 4,000 fans in the 11,098-seat venue. She added that she wants to run a show at the Tokyo Dome as well.
It was a complete whim (she said about her announcement that she intends to run show at the Tokyo Dome). Korakuen Hall is completely sold out. I was really happy there, and I thought, if I’m going to do it, I definitely want to do it in a bigger place, so Tokyo Dome is the only place I can do it. I had been there before as a second, but it was a place I had no connection to. If I want to be the best, I have to do my own show there, otherwise I can’t say I’m the best.
4,000 people is the target (for the Ryōgoku Sumo Hall show). I could continue holding shows at Korakuen, and there are plenty of big venues like the Yokohama Budokan and the Ota Ward General Gymnasium, but… Ryōgoku is the only place I can get excited about and that will get me to the Tokyo Dome. It was a must for me.
On 2/16, Sayaka’s latest independent event took place and in the main event, she wrestled Meiko Satomura at Korakuen Hall.
