Lyra Valkyria has retained the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship in a punishing defense.

She defeated fellow Irishwoman Becky Lynch at WWE Backlash on Saturday.

Lynch removed a turnbuckle pad at one point in what was a physical match. Valkyria narrowly missed out on the pin as referee Jessica Carr was replacing the pad.

In a series of reversals at the close of the match, Valkyria managed a quick roll-up pin to retain.

A furious Lynch locked on the Dis-arm-her after the bell, with officials, including Adam Pearce, having to intervene.
